Book Review: Jesus Today Devotions For Kids

Jesus Today, Devotions for Kids by Sarah Young - speaks to CHILDREN! Written in the same format as Jesus Today, this version is geared to the thinking and mind of a child.

Each devotion is based on scripture and is written as though Jesus is speaking directly to the reader. It confirms truths in the bible that Jesus is Holy, In Control, Merciful, Loving and Good.

The book contains 120 devotions, each with a one page devotion and related scriptures on the adjoining page. The back of the book as a section with scriptures used.

This would be a great addition to a child-led family devotion or during a children's worship/study at church.

Book Review: God's Justice Bible by Tim Stafford

Justice (n). the process or result of using laws to fairly judge and punish crimes and criminals

"Are you becoming increasingly concerned about matters of justice in the world today?
God's Justice Bible, NIV edition, written by Tim Stafford and over fifty contributors will challenge you to think about the biblical insights of today's world.

This text challenges the reader to:
1. Begin to learn the story
2. Commit to following Jesus
3. Love a life of justice
4. Find others who are acting out the story of God's justice

The bible is organized into 7 volumes: beginnings, history, poetry and song, prophets, life of Jesus, letters, and apocalypse. The beginning of each book contains an introduction and highlights chapetes that specifically focus on justice topics. There are footnotes throughout that give commentary about each account. There are also reflection questions and a prayer at the end of each book.

Sample Questions on Hebrews
1. Can you articulate the story of what God was doing in the thousands of years leading up to Jesus? How did he first set out to make the world right?
2. What contemporary descriptions of Jesus have you heard? What do modern people think of him? Contrast this with the message Hebrews is trying to communicate.

The book itself has an attractive hard cover with decorative tree branches in the edges of each page.

Overall, this is a great selection for a reader wanting more knowledge and biblical insight in today's world on issues like: trafficking, child injustice, women's rights, refugees and genocide.

Book Review: 40 Days of Decrease by Alicia Britt Chole

40 Days of Increase is a great read for people in preparation for Lent or to use as a daily devotional. It would also be a great tool for a small group bible study or congregational reading leading up to the Lenten season.

The book is sectioned into 40 daily readings. Each reading contains an anecdote, example or story related to the subject. There is a relavent scripture as well as a section to journal and reflect. A few topics are: Regrets, Faith, Avoidance, Isolation, Stinginess, Denial and Fasting.

Author, Alicia Britt Chole is honest, engaging and bold - stating her faith and examples of Christ's sacrifice.

Book Review: THINK, ACT, BE LIKE JESUS - A Believe Devotional for Kids

Think, Act, Be Like Jesus - A Believe Devotional for Kids is a wonderful study/devotional for kids. Written by Randy Frazee, the editor suggests a younger reader, but I feel this book would be ideal and appropriate for children ages 7-12.

This devotional breaks down into three sections: Think - Act - Be. Each devotional is accompanied with a scripture, beautiful illustration and thoughtful discussion.

The book includes a table of contents with various topics and kid relevant issues.

Think, Act, Be Like Jesus is a great way to introduce the importance of daily devotional and biblical study to a child. This could also, be helpful as a family devotion in the evenings.

Great resource!
